Fire dancing has been practised for many years in various forms and in many cultures and is becoming increasingly popular in Western society.

What is Fire Dancing?

(also known as, “fire spinning,” “fire twirling,” “fire performance“)

A group of performance arts that involve manipulation of objects that are on fire.

Usually these objects have one or more bundles of wicking, which are soaked in fuel and ignited and is typically performed to music. The performance is usually done to music.

Fire Dancing rapidly grew in popularity in the mid 1990's to early 2000's largeley due to the annual Burning Man festival, in the Black Rock Desert in Northern Nevada. The festival attracts an average of 50,000 partygoers from around the globe, to enjoy the fire dancing experience in our modern society.

What is Poi?

A performance art using a pair of arm-length chains or flexible material with handles on one end and a bundle of wicking material on the other.

Poi is a form of dance, where balls on the ends of ropes are swung through rhythmical patterns. It is rooted in the History of the Maori people of New Zealand. It began as a physical exercise, used by the women to develop grace and flexibility, and by the men to develop strength and coordination.

I use a mixture of Lamp oil and Camp fuel.

Lamp oil burns a blue flame and it is odorless.
